UK needs at least one million more engineers
Monday June 06, 2016
It is predicted that the UK will need at least one million more engineers during the next decade to plug the industry’s enormous skills gap. The demand for people with the necessary expertise continues to be greater than the current pool of talent available to recruiters.
Waterloo Air Products is a sponsor for this year’s CIBSE Young Engineers’ Awards. We support the campaign to promote the development of young people in the industry.
We understand the importance of encouraging and developing young talent in the building services industry. There is a major shortage of suitably skilled engineers, which is why as an industry, we need to do all we can to recruit, nurture and equip young people with the necessary skills for the long-term future of the industry.
CIBSE Young Engineers’ Awards celebrate the industry’s emerging talent and the businesses with the best strategies for recruiting and developing young engineers. The awards are split into two categories, The Graduate of the Year Award and The Employer of the Year Award.
The Graduate of the Year Award is presented to the industry’s brightest and most talented young engineer. Finalists deliver a short presentation to the award’s judging panel and audience. First prize is a trip to the ASHRAE Winter Conference in Las Vegas next January, with cash bursaries for the runners up. All the participating finalists will receive £100 from the Manly Trust.
The Employer of the Year Award is divided into three separate categories, with small, medium and large businesses given the opportunity to demonstrate how they invest in the future of engineering and develop young people with the right skills.
We are extremely pleased to be sponsoring this year’s awards. They play an important role in promoting the industry to potential future recruits and rewarding the success of those already making their mark.
Waterloo Air Products is also a patron of CIBSE. The patrons are an impressive group of companies that give support to CIBSE and help promote its initiatives.
