Despite the recession and the particular problems with the Construction industry, Waterloo still sees a bright future ahead and has continued to invest with the purchase of a brand new Bystronic AFM EP 100 Pressbrake. This is a replacement for an existing press that had been in service for over 15 years. The Bystronic Pressbrake can form sheets up to 3m long with a bending force of over 1000kN and has been installed within the Fabrication section at the Aylesford factory. Steve Miles, Maintenance Team Leader, reported that the Bystronic was selected over a number of alternatives, principally because it offered the best value in terms of price and quality, was available from stock, but also because the powerful DNC controller can be linked directly to the ERP system and so speeding up the manufacturing process for Plenums, Plank Diffusers and other products.
The new Pressbrake was ordered, delivered and commissioned in just 8 weeks and is already in operation today. Wander ter Kuile, Technical Manager, feels that the capabilities of the new press will enable many of the new design concepts associated with “leak-proof” plenums, currently being drawn in Inventor, to be realised in practice. This is one of the many product innovations anticipated for 2010.
